Release Notes Happy Hour

Charles and Joe really like attending conferences. We've even organized a few. So this whole pandemic thing has really put a kink in our social calendar. One by one, all the conferences we were looking forward to this year have been cancelled, leaving big holes in our social calendars.

Frankly, this has been more than a little disappointing. We were both looking forward to traveling, catching up with old friends—and meeting new ones. And that got us thinking: we can't be the only ones.

And so, we're happy to announce Release Notes Happy Hour!

Release Notes Happy Hour will be a group Zoom call on Thursday, May 14 at 6:00 PM Eastern. It's for anyone interested in the business of online business. The plan is to divide everyone who joins into smaller groups of four or five people so that you can have a meaningful conversation with your group. After 20 minutes or so, we'll shuffle the groups and do it again. The idea is to give everyone a chance to meet other like-minded people in a virtual small group setting.

Facts in Brief

Who is this for?

If you've gotten this far, it's probably for you. Whether you have a mobile app, a SaaS, a productized service, or you're still looking to start your first business, you're just the kind of person we're looking for.

How is this going to be held?

Our group call will be held via a Zoom call. Additional details, including the link, meeting code, and any password that is needed will be sent to everyone who registers prior to the event.

When is the call?

The call will start on Thursday, May 14 at 6:00 PM Eastern. That's 3:00 PM in Los Angeles, and 11:00 PM in London, England. We expect the entire call to take between an hour and an hour and a half, depending on everyone's interest.

What will we talk about?

There will probably be some shop talk, but although online businesses is the common denominator among our group, that doesn't mean that's all you can talk about. Feel free to go where the conversation takes you, whether that is talking about your kids, sports, banjo playing, or anything else.

Can you tell me some more about the format?

Anyone who has attended the dine-around at one of our Release Notes Conferences knows how great it can be to have the chance to meet and get to know people in small groups. We hope to replicate some of that magic using the “breakout rooms” feature offered by Zoom.

The plan is to give everyone a chance to join the call at the appointed time, and then divide everyone into groups of 4 or 5 people, so that they can chat as a small group. After 20 minutes or so, we will shuffle the rooms and do it again. We'll have a total of three or four shuffles, depending on how everyone is feeling. The hope is that these smaller groups will give everyone a chance to have meaningful conversations, and share ideas with others.

How much will this cost?

It’s free! Just sign up using the link on this page so that we can send you connection information.

Should I bring a drink?

Absolutely, if that's your thing. Whatever your favorite—be it beer, wine, coffee, tea—it is happy hour, after all.

How do I sign up?

Sign up using the form above. We promise not to sell your information to anyone.

Will everyone be on their best behavior?

As with any Release Notes event, we expect all attendees to adhere to our code of conduct. Make someone uncomfortable in our space, and you will be ejected at our discretion.
